Pilates Plus is what it says on the tin. Pilates, PLUS other elements. Classes for all.
My classes are an innovative blend of Pilates and other techniques, devised to enhance strength, promote flexibility and calm the mind.
Classes incorporate the fundamental principles of traditional Pilates, such as effective breathing and good biomechanics. However – unlike the traditional approach, my classes are not restricted to the 36 exercises of traditional Pilates.
New elements have been added, all for specific reasons. The intention is to make the time invested on Bodywork as productive as possible. I have researched widely and found simple, user friendly techniques (as well as devising some of my own) to help facilitate this.
A rhythm-based warm up of one or two tracks, helps establish rhythm in the body from the outset. For added variety, challenge and skill enhancement this often includes interesting pieces of equipment, such as balls, bean bags and sticks. They are also great fun! And we learn more effectively if there is an element of fun.
When a body moves rhythmically, mind and body are in sync, harmoniously communicating, adjusting where necessary and liaising to create movements that are effective, strong and graceful.
Practice, as always, improves proficiency.
A slower track follows, emphasising fuller range movements to improve mobility and focus the mind ready for the main section of the class.
As the classes are always different, and constantly evolving, the format of the rest of the class also varies, but, as with classic Pilates, there is a significant proportion of mat work to help the body to become LONGER AND STRONGER. Every area, from head to foot is worked.
